Do CVOTs affect choice of therapy in diabetes?

Yes, they do. A large number of people with diabetes mellitus have subclinical or asymptomatic CVD. Many have atypical clinical symptoms. Therefore, treatment decisions for every patient with diabetes should be based on a clear understanding of the CVOT results.

How can the ADA Standards of Medical Care in diabetes be extrapolated to the Indian population?

They can be extrapolated to the Indian scenario in terms of screening, diagnosis and monitoring. When it comes to choice of therapy, a practical approach needs to be followed. Treatment has to be individualized considering individual patient factors, such as diet, body weight, risk of hypoglycemia, frequency of glucose monitoring, etc.
