In spite of the current OAD armamentarium, diabetes control is far from satisfactory. Initial combination treatment, specifically as FDC, has several distinct advantages. It may help avoid clinical inertia, help with early reduction of HbA1c with more individuals achieving their glycemic goals, preserve b-cell function and cause fewer adverse effects, lower total and diabetes-related costs, etc. FDCs, while not a panacea, have the definite potential to optimize management of T2DM. Proper regulation and prudent use of FDCs is the need of the hour.
