Glycemic Status Evaluation in Newly Diagnosed Type 2 Diabetes Adult Indian Patients and Requirement of Insulin Therapy at the Time of Diagnosis

  1. Indians have very poor glycemic status at the time of their diagnosis. This can be labeled as awareness inertia.
  2. India needs a screening program for type 2 diabetes; 98 million Indians may have diabetes by 2030 (Lancet). There is a very high unmet need of insulin in India.
  3. More than 50-60% of Indian adults may or will require insulin therapy at the time of their diagnosis according to most international standard guidelines.
  4. Global insulin use is projected to rise from 526 million 1000 unit vials in 2018 to 634 million in 2030 and will be highest in Asia.
