BMI Changes in Uncontrolled T2DM: A Report from Diabetes Specialty Clinic

Obesity is a chronic disease characterized by accumulation of fat, where the body weight exceeds by 20%. Overall, a mean BMI change of -0.5 kg/m2 was observed in 74 T2DM patients; in obese T2DM patients, there was a clinically significant reduction in BMI of -2.2 kg/m2. In uncontrolled diabetes (HbA1c >7%), the change in BMI was -0.4 kg/m2. Further, when BMI change was compared between patients on only orals and oral + insulin, a significant reduction in BMI was observed in only orals (-1.4 kg/m2); in oral + insulin group, there was a slight increase in BMI of 0.3 kg/m2.
