National Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Management of Hepatitis C

  • These National guidelines are evidence-based and considers global recommendations as well as experience of clinicians from the Indian state of Punjab.
  • All patients who are infected with HCV and have detectable HCV RNA are eligible for treatment.
  • Once hepatitis C infection is confirmed by HCV RNA, baseline investigations should comprise APRI, FIB-4, and elastograpy to determine the development of cirrhosis.
  • If cirrhosis is absent, sofosbuvir (SOF) and daclatasvir (DCV) should be prescribed for 12 weeks. If present, SOF and velpatasvir (VEL) should be given for 12 weeks.
  • After 12 weeks of treatment, HCV RNA should be tested again. A negative results indicates completion of the treatment.
  • In case HCV RNA is detected, the patient should be referred to a specialized center for further management.
