  • About 15% patients with acute severe ulcerative colitis (UC) fail to respond to medical treatment needing cyclosporine, biologicals and colectomy.
  • An early prediction of non-response may help the treating team, patients and their family to prepare for alternative treatment options.
  • Hb and albumin contributed maximum as predictive factors on PCA.
  • ANN also showed strongest predictive utility of Hb and albumin similar to the results of PCA.
  • The prediction of response to medical treatment in patients with UC using linear and non-linear modelling technique is possible taking serum albumin and Hb into consideration.
