  • Protein carbamylation is a good measure of clinical uremia and can be measured robustly using carbamylated albumin assay in plasma.
  • Hypercarbamylation is associated with oxidative stress and cardiomyopathy in experimental animal models.
  • Carbamylated albumin is a better marker of dialysis adequacy than standard measures such as Kt/V.
  • Protein hypercarbamylation can be reversed with amino acid supplementation or intensive hemodialysis.
