Time to fight for the rights of mentally challenged people

IMA and Indian Psychiatric Society have condemned the title and poster of the upcoming film Mental Hai Kya. The producer must withdraw the teasers and change the title and content, if it has any such provocative sequence, dialogue or song.

Under Section 92 ( a, f) of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act “whoever intentionally insults or intimidates with intent to humiliate a person with disability in any place within public view shall be punishable with a jail term of not less than six months, which may extend to five years, with fine.”

Rangoli Chandel, Kanganas manager, tweeted on Saturday: "On behalf of Kangana all I want to say is that everyone will be proud of Mental Hai Kya the topic and subject she has chosen will trigger relevant talk and discussions around the stigma."

Mental Hai Kya stars Rajkummar Rao in the lead role opposite Kangana. Mental Hai Kya is directed by Prakash Kovelamudi and it is produced by Ekta Kapoor. Mental Hai Kya is a dark comedy centred around the lives of its two protagonists, both of whom show suicidal tendencies.

Earlier Bollywood movie PK, the title " are you drunk" had similar taste. Munna Bhai MBBS, Gabbar is back had projected the medical profession in a bad taste.

To remove the stigma the medical profession has changed the terminologies from prostitute to commercial sex worker; disabled to physically challenged; penis to the male organ; vagina to the female organ; mad to mentally challenged; addicted to dependent; hingra to trans-gender etc. Mental Hai Kya in Hindi will be named as Pagal hai kya and would stigmatise the 10% of the population. If the film is successful will become a common phrase for people talking to each other.

Antibacterial paints

Researchers from North Western University has refuted the claim of extra protection against bacteria by antimicrobial paints. The journal Indoor Air that reported that Bacillus timonesis is the sole survivor of bacteria that were applied with antimicrobial, synthetic latext paints.

But If you attack bacteria with antimicrobial chemicals, then they will mount a defense said Northwesterns Erica Hartmann.

Bacillus is typically innocuous, but by attacking it, you might prompt it to develop more antibiotic resistance.

In any way the natural environment of bacteria involves something warm and moist. If they are exposed to dry and cold environments, such as indoor surfaces, they die.

We should be judicious in our use of antimicrobial products to make sure that were not exposing the more harmless bacteria to something that could make them harmful.

IPC Section to Know

Section 295A. Deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings or any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs.

Section 295A of the IPC “ Deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings or any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs.— Whoever, with deliberate and malicious intention of outraging the religious feelings of any class of citizens of India, by words, either spoken or written, or by signs or by visible representations or otherwise, insults or attempts to insult the religion or the religious beliefs of that class, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to three years, or with fine, or with both”.
