All children received Macrogol 3350 plus electrolytes for 12 weeks. It was observed that the mean number of spontaneous defecations per week increased significantly after 14 days of treatment which further increased after 12 weeks. Consistent improvements were noted in fecal form rectal bleeding straining soiling amount of stool stool withholding as well as in assessments of efficacy of the treatment both by investigators and patients. Moreover there was considerable decline in reported abdominal pain from 69 children at baseline to 4 at the final visit. Likewise 79 children had pain on defecation at baseline whereas only 9 reported pain at the final visit. Furthermore the treatment was well tolerated 82 of the adverse events were mild while 76 were not associated with the treatment.
