A recent study published in the World Journal of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy determined the effectiveness of oral esomeprazole vs. injectable omeprazole in the prevention of hemorrhage after endoscopic submucosal dissection ESD . In all 258 patients were treated with either oral esomeprazole or injectable omeprazole. Data was analyzed from 71 subjects treated with oral esomeprazole and 172 subjects treated with injectable omeprazole. Analysis of 65 matched samples revealed no difference in the incidence of hemorrhage after ESD between the two groups. Researchers thus concluded that oral esomeprazole therapy is a useful alternative to injectable PPI therapy for the prevention of hemorrhage after ESD.7 References 7.
