On Monday, in a shocking incident, around 8.30 a.m a newborn was dragged and killed minutes after his birth by a stray dog inside the operation theatre of Akash Ganga Hospital hospital in Farrukhabad city of Uttar Pradesh.

Ravi Kumar, who works with a private finance firm, had come to the hospital with his pregnant wife, Kanchan, who was inlabour pain. He said that at first, the hospital’s nursing staff informed them that a normal delivery will be conducted, but after consulting the doctor, they told that his wife had to go for a caesarean. So, they took her to the operation theatre, and an hour later, they informed that the operation was successful and his wife has been shifted to a ward, whereas the baby was still in the OT. They asked himto wait outside.

A few minutes later, the hospital staff came out shouting about the presence of a dog inside the OT so he rushed to the OT and saw his child lying on the floor in a pool of blood. The newborn baby had dog bite marks on his chest and left eye and was lying still with no movement. The dog again tried to enter the OT while he screamed for help for his kid.

He further said that he confronted the doctors and hospital staff for their inhuman treatment and negligence, but instead of feeling guilty, they offered him money and asked him to bequiet over the incident. They told him that his baby was stillborn and the dog had entered the OT by mistake.

An investigation by the district authorities had discovered that the child was alive after the birth and died after being attacked by the dog. District magistrate Manvendra Singh said that the enquiry has found that due to the negligence of the hospital, the dog dragged away the baby and killed him. A committee including of doctors has been formed under the city magistrate, who will investigate about illegal private hospitals are running in Farrukhabad. The report will be submitted in three days.

Following the incident, Farrukhabad police lodged an FIR against the hospital owner Vijay Patel and other staff members under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Section 304-A (death by negligence). In the meantime, this report was filed, DM Farrukhabad had ordered to seal the hospital, as the investigation done by deputy CMO Rajeev Shakya has found that the hospital is being operated without valid documents.
