WASHINGTON: COVID-19 patients who are admitted to an intensive care unit (ICU) may be ten times more likely than others hospitalised with the viral infection to suffer cardiac arrest or heart rhythm disorders, according to a new study which may help better protect those most vulnerable to the disease.Researchers, including those from the University of Pennsylvania in the US, said cardiac arrests and heartbeat rhythm disturbances suffered by some patients with COVID-19 are likely triggered by a severe, systemic form of the disease, and are and not the sole consequence of the viral infection. ....read more

The government has sought product-wise details of cheap imports, comparison with domestic prices and tax disadvantage, if any, from industry to curb low quality inbound shipments especially from China to boost domestic manufacturing, a report by news agency PTI said quoting sources. Shares of Glenmark Pharmaceuticals rallied 40 per cent to Rs 572.7 in the intra-day trade on the BSE on Monday after the company on Saturday said it has launched antiviral drug Favipiravir, under the brand name FabiFlu, for the treatment of patients with mild to moderate Covid-19 at a price of about Rs 103 per tablet.The stock of pharmaceutical company finally settled at Rs 525, up 28 per cent, against its Fridays close of Rs 409 on the BSE. The counter has seen huge trading volumes with a combined 93.9 million equity shares had changed hands on the NSE and BSE, the exchange data shows.
