MUMBAI : Indian pharmaceutical companies have built a strong abbreviated new drug application (ANDA) pipeline since FY12 through scaling-up of investments in R&D but this will increase the inspection intensity, India Ratings and Research (Ind-Ra) said on Tuesday.Ind-Ra said there will be an increase in the number of inspections and re-inspections of pharma facilities to clear the overall backlog. The US Food and Drug Administration (US FDA) had postponed facility inspections from April due to the Covid-19 led lockdown which will impact new approvals and clearance for facilities. ,While a significant number of plants received US FDA clearances during March and April for the inspections conducted in previous months, Ind-Ra does not see it as a clear trend.

Central Drug Agency Warns Of Black Marketing Of COVID-19 Drug Remdesivir

New Delhi: The Drug Controller General of India (DGCI) has raised concerns over black marketing and profiteering of Remdesivir, an antiviral drug prescribed for treatment of suspected or severe lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19. The DGCI has written to all states and union territories asking them to keep "strict vigil" and prevent sale of the drug above MRP."Immediate enforcement is needed to stop the sale of COVID-19 drug Remdesivir above MRP (maximum retail price)," the agency said, noting that unscrupulous persons were indulging in black marketing and over-pricing of the drug.DGCI chief Dr VG Somani said complaints had been received from an Uttar Pradesh-based community engagement and social media platform via the Ministry of Health.

With Covid-19 cases and fatalities in Karnataka on the rise, doctors in Bengaluru say the state government needs to restructure its strategy to fight the pandemic, with enhanced contact-tracing, more oxygen beds, Intensive Care Unit (ICU) facilities and ventilators the need of the hour.“While asymptomatic cases may not need beds and can be treated at home, most symptomatic cases need facilities like adequate oxygen supply, ICU, and ventilators for effective treatment,” Dr Suriraju V, Managing Director (MD) of Regal Hospital in Chokkanahalli, said.,Dr. Taha Mateen, MD of HBS Hospital in Shivajinagar, said the per capita ventilator number in government hospitals remains “shamefully low.”

Days after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi alleged that the Centre is procuring "substandard" ventilators from a private firm amid the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic, ventilator-manufacturer AgVa Healthcare on Tuesday slammed him stating that he is not a doctor.Professor Diwakar Vaish, the owner of AgVa company claimed that the ventilators of the company are much better and cheaper than other companies. He told a news agency ANI that, "LNJP Hospital in Delhi did not reject our ventilator. We are in talks at Mumbais JJ Hospital and St Georges Hospital. These hospitals had third parties install our ventilators which could not be installed properly and doctors could not use them."
