The World Health Organization Director-General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has stated that the effects of the global COVID-19 outbreak will continue far into the future.

This pandemic represents a once-in-a-century health crisis, and its effects are going to be felt for decades to come. Over 670,000 people have lost their lives to this viral illness thus far, with more than 17 million cases diagnosed. Economies across the globe have been hit hard by lockdown restrictions that have been imposed to curb the spread of the virus. Many regions fear a second wave. Our knowledge about the virus has definitely advanced, but several questions still remain unanswered and populations continue to be vulnerable… (Reuters, July 31, 2020)
