Are We Honest?

Most of us are relatively honest. If I introspect myself, I consider myself as an honest doctor but when I go deep into introspection, I see that I am only relatively honest. I have given money to the TTE to get a reservation in a train, buy a cinema ticket in black, pay money to the electrician to get my electricity in time during functions, etc. Corruption is corruption whether it is for one rupee or 1 lakh rupee. Many of the current so called anti-corruption campaigners have purchased their houses by paying in black. Accepting donations from people who are not honest and from people who are donating from their unaccounted money is also corruption. ....read more

China grants countrys first Covid-19 vaccine patent to CanSino

BEIJING: Chinas vaccine specialist CanSino Biologics Inc has won a patent approval from Beijing for its Covid-19 vaccine candidate Ad5-nCOV, state media reported, citing documents from the countrys intellectual property regulator. It is the first Covid-19 vaccine patent granted by China, state-owned newspaper Peoples Daily reported on Sunday. The paper cited documents published by Chinas National Intellectual Property Administration saying that the patent was issued on Aug. 11.

Pranab Mukherjee continues to be critical, on ventilator support: Army hospital

The condition of Pranab Mukherjee continues to be critical and the former president is being closely monitored, news agency ANI reported on Monday citing the Indian Army’s Research and Referral Hospital in New Delhi. The hospital in the Delhi Cantonment area also said the vital and clinical parameters of Mukherjee, who is on ventilatory support, are stable. The 84-year-old Mukherjee was admitted to the hospital last Monday and underwent a critical brain surgery to remove a clot in his brain after he suffered a fall at his Rajaji Marg residence a day before. He has also tested positive for the coronavirus disease (Covid-19). His son, Abhijit Mukherjee, said on Sunday that he had visited the hospital on Saturday and his father “is much better and stable than the preceding days”.

Mumbai: KEM, Nair hospitals to submit proposal for Covidshield trials to ethics panel today

THE KING Edward Memorial (KEM) and BYL Nair Hospitals will submit a proposal to the ethics committee Monday seeking approval to participate in the phases 2 and 3 clinical trials of Oxford-AstraZeneca, a Covid-19 vaccine candidate. The two civic-run hospitals, BMC additional municipal commissioner Suresh Kakani said, have already received approval from the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) as possible sites from Mumbai for the vaccine trial. Earlier this month, Pune-based Serum Institute of India (SII) got approval from the country’s regulatory authority to conduct late-stage human trials of the vaccine candidate. SII, the largest vaccine manufacturer in the world, has exclusive rights of marketing the vaccine candidate, called Covidshield in India.
