This year marks the 30th Anniversary of the International Day of Older Persons. This year has also seen the COVID-19 outbreak.

Older persons face a higher risk during the outbreak of pandemics, such as COVID-19. Policy and programmatic interventions, therefore, must work towards raising awareness of the special needs of older persons.

International Day of Older Persons, this year, will focus on the role the healthcare workforce has been playing in the health of older persons, with special recognition of the nursing profession. It will also focus on the role of women, who are relatively undervalued and most of the times, inadequately compensated. The day aims to raise awareness of the special health needs of older persons as well as their contribution to their own health and the operations of the societies they live in… (UN)
