Drugs which cause weight gain prevented some adults with obesity from losing weight despite applying lifestyle intervention, revealed a post hoc analysis of the Look AHEAD trial.

Middle-age individuals with overweight or obesity and type 2 diabetes who were prescribed one or more obesogenic medications had 32% lower odds of achieving a 5% or greater amount of weight loss within the first year of intensive lifestyle intervention. Taking one or more obesogenic medications decreased the likelihood of achieving 10% or greater weight loss by 19%.
