Novavax says its COVID-19 vaccine 89% effective in UK trial

Novavax Inc has stated that its COVID-19 vaccine was found to be 89.3% effective in preventing COVID-19 in a study carried out in the United Kingdom. The vaccine was also effective in protecting against the coronavirus variant first detected in the UK, suggests a preliminary analysis.

In a mid-stage trial of the vaccine conducted in South Africa, there was a 60% effectiveness in people who did not have HIV. The UK trial recruited 15,000 individuals aged 18 to 84 years and will likely be used to apply for use in Britain, the European Union and other countries. According to the preliminary analysis, the vaccine was found to be 85.6% effective against the virus mutation detected in the UK… (Reuters, January 29, 2021)
