Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine to be considered for EUA this week by FDA advisers

The US Food and Drug Administration vaccine advisers are set to meet on Friday to discuss if Johnson & Johnsons COVID-19 vaccine should be recommended for emergency use authorization (EUA).

This is the third vaccine being considered for the US. Also, this would be the first single-dose vaccine against COVID. Johnson & Johnson had submitted an official request for FDA emergency use authorization on February 4 and the clinical trial investigators hope that the vaccine will be authorized quickly.

On Friday, the FDA committee will assess the potential safety issues as well as the efficacy of the vaccine. Interim results had shown that the vaccine was 66% effective in preventing moderate and severe disease, while it was 85% effective in preventing hospitalization and 100% effective in preventing mortality… (CNN, February 23, 2021)
