Today is World Kidney Day

Being diagnosed with kidney disease comes with immense challenges, both for the patients and their families. World Kidney Day is observed every year on the second Thursday of March. This global campaign aims to raise awareness of the significance of kidneys to health and to diminish the impact of kidney disease and associated health problems. This is a joint initiative of the International Society of Nephrology (ISN) and the International Federation of Kidney Foundations (IFKF). 

The year 2021 has been declared by the World Kidney Day Steering Committee as the year of “Living Well with Kidney Disease”. It is aimed at enhancing awareness about effective symptom management as well as empowering the patient, with the ultimate goal of encouraging life participation. While it is important to have effective measures to prevent kidney disease and its progression in place, patients with kidney disease and their care givers should also feel supported, particularly during times like pandemics and other challenging times, and this can be achieved through the coordinated efforts of kidney care communities… (nhp.gov.in; https://www.worldkidneyday.org/2021-campaign/2021-wkd-theme/)
