Despite a steady rise in COVID-19 cases in India, the case fatality rate is decreasing and continues to be below 1.5% even after the surge.

Health authorities are concerned about a week-on-week rise in deaths, but it is lower than the rate at which new cases are increasing every week. Data from the health ministry till March 17 suggests that average daily new cases are rising at around 43% week-on-week, while new deaths are increasing 37% week-on-week.
