Lockdown due to COVID-19 negatively affected mental health of teenagers, says study

A new study suggests that the lockdown imposed to check the spread of the novel coronavirus in March 2020 took a toll on mental health of teenagers. 

The CS Mott Childrens Hospital National Poll on Childrens Health at Michigan Medicine noted 46% of parents reported that their teen has shown signs of a new or worsening mental health condition since the pandemic started in March 2020. It was more likely for parents of teen girls to say that the child had a new onset or worsening of depressive symptoms and anxiety compared to parents of teen boys.

Investigators received responses from 977 parents of teens, 13-18 years of age. According to the poll, 36% of parents of teen girls and 19% parents of teen boys reported a surge in anxiety/worry, while 31% parents of teen girls and 18% parents of teen boys reported a rise in depression/sadness… (HT – ANI, March 21, 2021)
