Mumbai is set to roll out compulsory COVID-19 tests in crowded places as India faces a surge in cases.

According to the local government, rapid tests would be done randomly in crowded places, like shopping centers, train stations, etc., and refusal to be tested will amount to offence.

The rapid antigen tests will be mandatory in crowded places starting 22 March. The commissioner of the local authority stated that people should be ready for the swab test whenever they enter a crowded place in Mumbai. While the tests will be done for free elsewhere, costs for tests carried out at shopping centers will be covered by individuals.

It has not been clarified what action would be taken against the people who refuse to get the tests done… (BBC, March 21, 2021)
