A COVID-19 vaccine that could be taken as an oral pill may enter into clinical trials in the second quarter of this year.

The oral vaccine is being developed by Oravax Medical, a joint venture of the Israeli-American company Oramed and the Indian company Premas Biotech. An advantage of an oral vaccine is that it can be taken at home instead of having it administered by healthcare personnel at a central location. It would also be easier to distribute an oral vaccine as it could be shipped in a normal refrigerator and stored at room temperature.
