Vaccination studies in UK show significant decline in COVID-19 infections

COVID-19 infections in adults of all ages dropped by 65% following a first dose of AstraZeneca or Pfizer vaccine in UK study. Scientists suggest that these findings show the real-world impact of the inoculation campaign in the country.

The research was carried out when a more infectious variant of the coronavirus, termed B1.1.7, was dominant in the country, but it was still seen that the vaccination was just as effective in the elderly and those with underlying health conditions as in the young and healthy individuals. The data come from two studies which form a part of the COVID-19 Infection Survey, which is an alliance between Oxford University, the government’s health department, and the Office of National Statistics. Both studies have been published online as preprints but are not yet peer-reviewed… (Reuters, April 23, 2021)
