In case of a minor patient, consent must be taken from the person with parental responsibility. In case of an emergency; however, the person in charge of the child at that time can give consent if the child’s parents or guardians are not available.

Before performing any procedure on a child <18 years of age, consent must be taken from a person with parental responsibility so that its validity is not questioned later. Indian Penal Code, section 89, states that a child aged >12 years of age can give a valid consent for physical/medical examination. [Indian J Anaesth 2015;59:695-700.]
