  • Kidney and liver transplant in HIV-positive patients can be considered to be appropriate use of transplant resources with comparable and patient and graft survival.
  • In a single-centre cohort study, kidney and liver transplant in HIV patients had comparable long-term outcomes with those in matched HIV-negative patients.
  • The increased incidence of acute rejection was linked to reduced graft survival.
  • The results of the study support the fact that providing transplant to HIV-positive patients may be an appropriate use of transplant resources and allow for equitable access for HIV-positive patients.
