According to an ICMR review of 29,509 Covid-19 hospitalized patients from 42 hospitals throughout India, including Pune, individuals with a chronic liver illness and those who are obese or overweight have a higher risk of infection-associated mortality. These risk factors were not included in the frequently mentioned comorbidities including diabetes, advanced age, chronic kidney disease, malignancies, and TB.

The study revealed that among patients hospitalized to the 42 hospitals, all types of Covid vaccinations lowered the risk of death by 50% with a single dosage and by 60% with two doses.

Dr. Samiran Panda, the additional director-general of the ICMR in New Delhi, said that patients who received at least one dose of the anti-SARS CoV-2 vaccination had a lower mortality rate (13 %) compared to those who had not received the vaccine (22% ). He further added that more than 60% of the 12,046 subjects who were evaluated for the relationship between Body Mass Index (BMI) and Covid severity were obese or overweight.
