The Gujarat State Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission ordered two doctors to pay Rs. 8.48 lakh compensation to a woman who became immobile due to back pain after a C-section delivery. The petitioner was admitted to the Dr. Bhadra Hospital and Sonography Center for delivery on November 15th. After the delivery, the patient started having health issues, including pain in her waist. She consulted ten doctors and underwent surgery to get rid of her back pain, but it kept increasing, and she became immobile after a while.

She contended before the consumer commission that she had suffered 100% permanent disability and sought Rs 25 lakh in compensation, alleging negligence and deficiency in service. The doctors argued that the patient was suffering from TB of the vertebra and that might have triggered her back pain. They denied that the surgery and administration of anesthesia could have caused any damage to the patients spine.

After hearing the case, the commission held both the doctors liable for compensation and ordered them to pay 50% of the compensation amount to the patient.
