On Friday, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Health Minister, stated that India is dedicated to eliminating lymphatic filariasis (LF) by 2027, three years ahead of the global objective, using mission mode and the five-pronged roadmap. According to the health ministry, nearly 60% of India′s lymphedema cases are located in Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Telangana, and Bihar.

During the national conference on Indias roadmap to abolish LF, Dr. Mandaviya presented critical areas of agreement for various stakeholders. He stated that multi-drug administration (MDA) campaigns, which are conducted twice a year in conjunction with National Deworming Day, are necessary to eradicate the illness. He asserted that, contrary to what may be true in certain other nations, lymphatic filariasis is a priority illness that must be eradicated within a specific period in India.

Additionally, he pointed out that a Jan Bhagidari strategy is required for the disease to be eradicated. In this strategy, several ministries, departments, NGOs, and the corporate sector will collaborate with CSR, religious leaders, community influencers, etc. to raise awareness of the illness.
