On Monday, the Drug Controller General of India approved the market authorization for Covovax as a heterologous booster dose for adults who have completed their primary COVID-19 vaccination schedules. The approval followed the recommendations of the Central Drug Standard Control Organization′s subject expert committee.

The official sources stated that the expert committee held a meeting on Wednesday where they discussed and recommended the market authorization of Covovax for adults who have completed 2 primary doses of Covishield or Covaxin.

Dr. Prakash Kumar Singh, Director of Government and Regulatory Affairs at the Serum Institute of India, had previously written a letter to the DCGI seeking approval for administering Covovax as a heterologous booster dose.
