If a doctor has advised rest to a patient for more than 15 days in the medical certificate issued by him, it amounts to professional misconduct. Bed rest is not to be advised for more than 15 days.

Under any circumstances, a medical certificate should not certify the period of absence from duty for more than 15 days. If the medical condition of a patient is of such a nature that it may need further absence from duty, then a fresh medical certificate can be issued.
