  1. Billionaire Malvinder Mohan Singh and his younger brother Shivinder Mohan Singh, founders of Fortis Healthcare, resigned from the companys board. Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) filing announced the stepping down of the promoters.
  2. Malaysias IHH Healthcare Berhad and Singapore government-owned holding firm Temasek Holding are having separate discussions to buy a majority stake in Global Health, the parent firm of Gurugram-based multi-super speciality hospital Medanta, according to a report published in The Times of India.

  4. The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has raised the age limit of appointment of senior residents from 33 to 37 years. The Medical Council of India had earlier set the upper age limit from 33 to 40 years, but while the Delhi government institutions were following the guidelines, the same was not being implemented by the central institutions. The age limit is relaxable by 5 years for SC/ST candidates," stated the notice.

The MCI had circulated a notice in June 2017, stating that the "Senior Resident is one who is doing his/her residency in the concerned post-graduate subject after obtaining PG degree (MD/MS) and is below 40 years of age," but the same had not been implemented. "Implementation of the age criteria for senior residents will help in filling up the posts lying vacant in our medical institutions. In addition to this, various state governments have rural service bonds after MBBS and some have service bonds also after post-graduation. Many doctors are well above the age of 33 years when they complete the compulsory posting.

An appellate body, Financial Commissioners court Delhi,  hearing the Max hospital twin death case on Thursday extended by two months, till 12th April,  the stay on a Delhi government order cancelling its licence in December. The licence cancellation case pertains to the birth of a premature twin at the hospital in Shalimar Bagh on November 30 last year.
  7. Thousands of people with post-traumatic stress disorder have taken the drug prazosin to ease the nightmares and disturbances that stalk their sleep. A team of researchers from the Department of Veterans Affairs have found the drug was no better than a placebo.

Treatment with cabozantinib (Cabometyx, Exelixis) significantly improved outcomes in patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), leading researchers to suggest that it could offer a new treatment option for this patient population. The new findings come from the phase 3 CELESTIAL trial and were presented at the Gastrointestinal Cancers Symposium (GICS) 2018.
  13. WMA: German Medical Association strictly rejects the idea of nurse practitioners substituting for physicians. The follow a model of delegation. (Tasks delegated to nurse practitioners by physicians, but under their direction.) The AMA has also shown with nice evidence, that the idea nurse practitioners would fill the regional gaps that physicians leave out is not more than a myth.
