Acne scars are worrisome cosmetic concerns causing psychosocial distress.

The present study evaluated the Efficacy of subcision versus its combination with either cross-linked hyaluronic acid (HA) or poly-l-lactic acid (PLLA) threads in treating atrophic post-acne scars.

It enrolled Forty patients of both genders with atrophic acne scars who were subjected to subcision one month apart for three sessions. After the last session of subcision, it randomized the patients into two equal groups to receive either HA or threads on one side of the face leaving the other side to subcision before as a control. The study carried out Clinical assessment, Photographic evaluation, and skin biopsies, along with follow-up.

The study observed-

  • A significant clinical improvement in 67.3% of patients after subcision alone compared to 94.1% and 82.4% of subcision combined with HA or threads, respectively.
  • Higher Patients satisfaction in the combined groups compared to subcision alone.
  • Tolerable and transient Side effects.

This study shows that Subcision combined with HA or threads offers a significantly greater clinical improvement of acne scars than subcision alone.
