THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state branch of the Indian Medical Association has asked health minister K K Shylaja to take strict action against those who are attacking the doctors in the state. In a complaint given to the minister on Wednesday, IMA state secretary Dr N Sulphi urged the government to take stern action against those who attacked the doctors in Kodungallur and vadakara recently.

In the complaint the IMA alleged that there has been an increase in the crime against the doctors and the government is not acting against it. The IMA wants strict action against those who are disrupting the official duties and also causing damages to the hospitals. The high handedness against the doctors are not justifiable and hence the government should act firm against such atrocities.

The IMA gave the complaint since the police is yet to nab the people behind the attack against a lady doctor that occurred in Vadakra on January 28. The attackers had vandalized the hospital run by this lady doctor. A similar cindient was reported from Kodungallur on February 11 where the hospital run by Dr Rahul Menon was attacked and the doctor brutally assaulted by a group of people.
