What is informed refusal?

Dr KK Aggarwal and Ms Ira Gupta    05 March 2018

Informed refusal is the subsequent election by the patient to decline an intervention that has been recommended by the physician. It should be noted that the need for intervention, as well as risks, benefits and alternatives to the intervention, including possible consequences of refusal have all been explained to the patient. The reason/s why the patient refused the proposed treatment should also be recorded.
