In its updated guidelines for treatment of hepatitis C, the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL) has recommended that all patients with suspected hepatitis C virus infection should be tested for anti-HCV antibodies in serum or plasma as first-line diagnostic test. All patients must be considered for therapy, including treatment-naïve patients and individuals who failed to achieve sustained virologic response despite treatment. The guidelines are published online April 9, 2018 in the Journal of Hepatology.
