Findings of the Prostate, Lung, Colorectal, and Ovarian (PLCO) cancer screening trial published May 15, 2018 in JAMA show that the presence of advanced adenoma at diagnostic colonoscopy prompted by a positive flexible sigmoidoscopy result was a significant risk factor for developing colorectal cancer compared with those with no adenoma.
