An online conducted in the United Kingdom explored the complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) treatments used by pregnant women in the UK and their perceptions of these therapies in relieving Low back and pelvic girdle pain (LBPGP). In all, 191 women completed the survey and 70% experienced LBPGP that lasted more than one week. Over half of women who sought treatment from a GP or physiotherapist were dissatisfied. About 25% of the women used CAM during pregnancy, the most popular being aromatherapy (21%), acupuncture (21%), and reflexology (15%). Nearly 81% of women used CAM to manage LBPGP and about 85% of them found it useful for pregnancy symptoms. The findings are published in Complementary Therapies in Clinical Practice.
