FDA approves tecovirimat as treatment of smallpox

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved TPOXX (tecovirimat), the first drug with an indication for treatment of smallpox. Although, small pox was declared as eradicated in 1980 by the WHO, there have been longstanding concerns that smallpox could be used as a bioweapon.
