The USPSTF recommends prophylactic ocular topical medication (with 0.5% erythromycin ophthalmic ointment) for all newborns to prevent gonococcal ophthalmia neonatorum (Grade A recommendation) in a draft recommendation statement on ocular prophylaxis for gonococcal ophthalmia neonatorum published on its website. The draft is open to public comment till October 9, 2018.
