The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) took action to remove lead acetate in hair coloring products given potential safety concerns about lead exposure from these products. It issued a final rule in response to a color additive petition that repeals the regulation that allows for the use of lead acetate as a color additive in these products. This rule, when effective, removes the only authorization for the use of lead as an ingredient in cosmetic products.
