A blood test that measures levels of biomarkers may help with diagnosis and management of concussion, but individual differences in biomarker levels before a concussion, which vary by sex and race, may make interpreting such tests more complicated, according to a study published in the November 7, 2018 online in the journal Neurology. Levels of total tau were higher in 75% of concussed athletes; beta amyloid peptide 42 levels were found to be high in 81% of athletes who had concussion.
