  • 50% positive to hair dye, 25% to fragrance and remaining 25% to preservatives.
  • Patch test allergens to be used should preferably be fresh; if not, store at 4 degree celsius.
  • 58 cosmetics preservatives are approved in Europe.
  • Blepharoconjuctivitis and centrofacial edema are reported with PPD.
  • Increasing number of people are dying their eyebrows and eyelashes; therefore, we may see a rise in PPD allergy.
  • Patch test patients to a reduced concentration of PPD when there is a history of having had a reaction to “black henna tattoo” and their dyes (0.1% or 0.01%).
  • PPD is an extreme allergen.
  • Pure natural henna, Lawsonia Inermis, is not an allergen.
  • In the year 2009, Europe recommended PPD of maximum 2%.
  • PPD is not recommended for application on eyebrow and eyelashes in Europe.
