In a shocking incident, a woman delivered a stillborn baby in a government hospitals toilet in Haryanas Tohana district, causing protests from the womans family. The doctor on the duty had to use a flashlight to assist the delivery because there was no light in the toilet.

The family of the woman alleged that, firstly, doctors told them a normal delivery was not possible and a cesarean had to be carried out for delivery. According to ANI report, the hospital authorities have denied allegations of the woman’s family that they were misinformed by them. The hospital said that delivery was supposed to be carried out in the toilet itself as the woman broke her water while using the washroom.

The report quoted the womans aunt as saying that while they were eating food, some hospital staff came and said that she has given birth to a stillborn child. How can this be possible as they had earlier told them normal delivery was not possible and had given the time of 4 pm for an operation? It is utter negligence of the staff. There were no lights in the washroom and they used a mobile torch for the delivery.

On-duty doctor Sachin Kumar said that the ultrasound of the woman clearly specified that the baby had died in the womb. The doctor further said that the delivery was performed in the toilet itself as the woman broke her water while using the toilet. The mother is now out of danger.

On May 27,a similar incident had happened, a pregnant woman delivered her baby at the community health centres toilet in Shamli district of Uttar Pradesh. The nurse was accused of not attending to the patient in this case.

But, instead of taking strict action against the accused nurse, the superintendent and medical officer transferred her to another center in the state. The incident came to light when the victims father-in-law filed an official complaint accusing the hospitals staff of medical negligence.

In past months, several such cases of medical apathy have been reported from Uttar Pradesh. On June 21, a woman was taken to Shamli district hospital on a cart as the hospital authorities denied her an ambulance. A relative of the patient said that when he called the district hospital to provide an ambulance, they allegedly told him that no one was there in the hospital. Yet, the woman was rushed to the hospital on a cart.
