On Sunday, a 25-year-old Marathi actress, Pooja Zunjar, and her newborn baby died within hours of birth in Maharashtras Hingoli district due to unavailability of ambulance. Her relatives claimed she would have been alive if could have managed to get an ambulance in time.

This incident took place on Sunday morning in Hingoli district, around 590 kms from Mumbai, in the Marathwada region.

The police official said that on Sunday, around 2 a.m. Pooja was rushed to a primary health center in Goregaon, her native place in the district, after she went into labour but the newborn died within few minutes of delivery. The doctors at the primary health center then advised Poojas family members to shift her to the Hingoli civil hospital, which was around 40 km from Goregaon. They by some means managed to get a private ambulance to rush Pooja to the civil hospital in Hingoli, but she died during the journey. Police have registered a medico-legal case and have recorded statements from Poojas relatives.

Pooja had played lead roles in two Marathi movies and had taken a break from work due to pregnancy.
