Two quack doctors claimed to be Ayush doctors, detained

On Saturday two quacks from the district were arrested, following a complaint from the district medical officer. Pollachi East police arrested Sarvesh Kumar Bathra (48) of Sethupathy Nagar and CP Ramachandran (69) of Thiru Neelakandan Street in Pollachi, according to the police report. The Police sources said that one of them had given wrong treatment to a patient from Pune. A complaint was made to the district health department and the Collector on the respective matter.

Based on this, aninvestigation was started and District Medical Officer (Ayush) Baskaran found them practicing medicine without obtaining a proper degree. Therefore, he filed a complaint with the police and the two men were arrested.

The police said that for the past 20 years, Bathra had his practice, while Ramachandran had been posing as an Ayurvedic doctor and they had obtained fake medical certificates to stake their claims.

On Saturday night, both of them were booked under sections 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (using as genuine a forged document), 420 (cheating) of Indian Penal Code and section 15 (right of persons possessing qualifications in the Schedules to be enrolled) of Medical Council Act and kept in custody.
