Stroke is preventable. About 90% of strokes are associated with 10 risks factors that are modifiable.

  1. Make efforts to control high blood pressure
  2. Indulge in moderate exercise 5 times a week
  3. Eat a healthy and balanced diet that is rich in fruits and vegetables; reduce sodium intake
  4. Work towards decreasing your cholesterol levels
  5. Maintain a healthy BMI or waist-to-hip ratio
  6. Quit smoking and avoid second-hand exposure to cigarette smoke
  7. Reduce alcohol intake – 2 drinks/day for men and 1/day for women
  8. Identify atrial fibrillation and get it treated
  9. Control blood sugar levels; consult your doctor
  10. Obtain information about stroke.
