A private hospital in Kadayalumoodu area of Nagercoil has been sealed as relatives of a 12-year-old boy have alleged that he died because of the negligence of the hospital management. As per the sources, the boy, named Abinesh from Kadayalumoodu, was taken to a private hospital in the same locality on 30th – 31st August as he had fever. He was allegedly administered an injection in the hospital.

However, his fever increased and he was then admitted to the hospital on Tuesday. The hospital management then asked his parents to take him to another hospital later that day. The same night, as they were taking him to a private hospital in Nagercoil, he died. His relatives took the boy’s body to the hospital and protested, alleging he was given the wrong treatment.

On Wednesday morning, a group of people and teams of political parties protested at the Kadayalumoodu Junction and demanded immediate action against the private hospital. Joint Director of Health Services Dr John Britoo, Vilavancode Thasildar Raja Monohanan and Thuckalay DSP Ramachandran inspected the private hospital following this protest. Later, the hospital was sealed by the revenue department.

As per the sources, the hospital has only homeopathic doctors and it has not been revealed who administered the injection. Also, the sources said that drugs kept inside the hospital will be checked by a drug inspector.

Based on a complaint that has been lodged by the boy’s father, the Kadayalumoodu police has registered a case under section 174 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC). Later, the police altered the case to include others sections 294 ((b), 304, 419, 420 and 506 (1), of the IPC and section 15 (3) of the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956. The post-mortem examination report is still awaited and investigation is in process.
