Britain to test combination of Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccines in two-shot regimen

Britain has started a trial to evaluate the immune responses generated if doses of the vaccines against COVID-19 developed by Pfizer Inc and AstraZeneca Plc are combined in a two-dose regimen.

Researchers associated with the trial have stated that data on using two different types of vaccines for vaccinating individuals will likely help understand if the vaccines can be rolled out with greater flexibility across the globe. Initial data is expected to be available around June. The trial will determine the immune responses generated by an initial dose of Pfizer vaccine followed by a booster dose of AstraZeneca vaccine, and vice versa, with intervals of 4 and 12 weeks.
